Livigno's Webcam Story

Third step: Updating

After a year of experimentation, it was necessary to substitute the operating system which did not offer the valid applications for the use of data and their protection (the applications we use cannot pass through the firewalls).

The old S.O. was removed and new installed Linux was very difficult to configure, but more efficient in production of real time images (it would be possible to have the web cam images in streaming, but we considered it useless, as long as the image is fixed… as soon as we find the suitable hardware and the software, we will activate it) and data operating (now the weather data are stored in a database and so in the future time they can be used in research).

The weather forecast data are updated each 5 min. and the graphics occurred in real time.

Second step: changing the place of web cam

After a long period of experimentation we decided to move camera and put it in better place and offer the real weather situation in Livigno.

Web cam is now on the roof of a habitation, which is situated towards the lake (one of the extreme parts of Livigno) and it covers the most of the southern part of Livigno valley (Vago mountain in centre, Monte della neve on the left side and Monte Blesaccia on the right).

It is useless to say that this is the experimental stage and even if it is diverse from the previous one, we still do not know if our invention can bear the harsh winter temperature.

With the introduction of real time images (24h/24h), now they are updated from 6 a.m. to 12 a.m. each 20 min.

Under the web cam images you will find other information referring the weather forecast in Livigno and is updated each 20 min: temperature, (current, max. min) humidity, atmospheric pressure, temperature graphic and the last minute humidity, the moon’s phases e weather forecast in the next few hours.

The rain gauge is not activated, being useless in this period: in this moment it is covered by 1 meter of snow…
